UPDATE October 29, 2025: Another amazing community member has given a donation specifically to support the Walkathon. This raises the total to $20,149.
This is a phenomenal response by the community!
HEFC is grateful to everyone who supported us for this event.
UPDATE October 20, 2025: HEFC has been fortunate that our generous community, present and past volunteers, continued to contribute to this fundraiser.
In total, we have now raised $19,649! Phenomenal! Thank you!
Thank you to all the walkers and supporters who turned out on September 27th to rally in support of HEFC.
Thank you to our sponsor, St. Thomas the Apostle Anglican church, who kindly provided a meeting room for us to gather, and Minister Maria, who joined us and who became the group's unofficial photographer!
Joining a small crowd and offering words of encouragement for the important work that we do, were: municipal politicians Marty Carr (AltaVista Ward), Riley Brockington (River Ward), Tim Tierney (Beacon Hill-Cyrville Ward); and, John Fraser, MPP Ottawa South. Although David McGuinty, MP Ottawa South, was not able to join us in person, he sent his best wishes and encouragement.
HEFC's Walkathon was buoyed by the news that Councillor Marty Carr has been identified as the City's champion for food insecurity, and whose motion for the City to develop a strategy to engage with other levels of government in order to address the root causes of food insecurity, was approved at the last Council meeting.
HEFC Board members are grateful to everyone who donated to support this Walkathon and especially to those who gathered pledges from friends and neighbours, and those walkers who got their steps in during a lovely neighbourhood walk.
The Walkathon raised $16,359!
Have a look at the HEFC Facebook page for a greater visual at the start of the morning.
