HEFC is a not-for-profit, charitable organization. We are supported by the Ottawa Food Bank, the City of Ottawa, and assisted by the generosity of the local churches and residents.

 

HEFC provides a seven-day emergency supply of food, to food insecure households in the geographic area of Ottawa known as Alta Vista, Heron Park, Riverside Park, Hunt Club East, Playfair Park and Mooney's Bay. Households may only access this support once per month. Annually HEFC provides emergency food supplies to approximately  4,000 different people in 1,300 households. Including repeated requests, we serve over 20,000 people.

In addition to receiving food in bulk, HEFC must also purchase items that are needed to supplement what has been donated. We ensure that the seven day emergency supply of food that we provide will meet the nutritional needs of our clients.

 

Over the years, we have developed a dedicated volunteer base that supports our operation and allows us to operate and distribute a remarkable amount of food at an astonishingly low cost.
